Frequently Asked Questions
Receipt of application: Will I be notified when my application has been received? When will I be contacted?
We will send an email immediately letting you know your application has been received along with a PDF of your completed application for your records.
Incomplete applications: Will you notify me if there is something missing in the application?
It is your responsibility to ensure the application is completed fully. However, if we have a question regarding your application, we may contact you directly.
Advice: Can I have a conversation with someone about my application before submission?
References: Who can provide a reference?
We would like at least one of your referees to be someone who has direct experience of your current or recent performance at school, such as a teacher or school principal. The other can be a character reference - someone who can make a recommendation based on their knowledge of your character like a coach, employer, or an organization you volunteer with.
Successful applicants: What will be expected of me if I’m successful?
As outlined under Available Awards, you will need to continue attending university or college and maintain a minimum B grade in all subjects. We might also ask you to provide details of your experience or future achievements to encourage other applicants. We would also like to feature photos of all successful applicants on this website, along with a few details on you and your studies.
Appeals: Is there an appeals process?
There is no appeals process, but we might suggest you apply again if we think that with some improvements your application could be successful.
Feedback: Will you give feedback to applicants who would like to learn from the experience?
Unfortunately at this time, we are unable to provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
Age limit: Is there an age limit for applicants?
There is no age limit to apply for a RRCF scholarship.
Citizenship / residence: Do applicants have to be Canadian citizens when they apply? Also, I’m from Nova Scotia, but currently taking a gap year before university. Can I apply?
Applicants do not have to be citizens, but they must be legal residents of the provinces outlined under eligibility.
Field of study: I’m planning on studying the arts. Should I apply for this scholarship?
Preference will be given to students pursuing studies in the fields of technology, business, health and engineering, but this does not mean other areas of studies will not be considered.
Will you accept late applicants?
We cannot accept late applications. There are no exceptions.
Do I receive the scholarship cheque directly?
Scholarship checks are mailed directly to your college or university. The funds will be credited to your student account.
If I change schools, will my scholarship be re-routed to my new school?
This will depend what province your new school is in. If you change schools, contact us at email@example.com. We will determine if your award can be re-routed.
If I already have enough funding for this year, can I defer my scholarship to next year?
No, if you do not require the scholarship in the year you applied for it, you must re-apply the following year.
